What Is Wrong With Us?

A FEW THINGS---

I have decided to publish on Mondays instead of Wednesdays from here on out. It will fit my schedule better and Mondays are such downers-- hopefully you will read this and feel better about your week.

This is my 13th blog since starting a public blog. My numbers were highest when I was "spilling the tea"about my dysfunctional life vs trying to talk about life changes or inspiration or travel. I understand this--I love the drama of "The Real Housewives" I tune in every week to see the shade, the gossip, and ALL the drama. I also had a session with my blogging mentor and he said I should have waited and released all of these blogs at the same time vs weekly as it helps with promotion. Of course I find this out AFTER I released them--in my mind I just wanted to continue on with what I was doing on Facebook not knowing there was a strategy to making a successful public blog. Life is all about the learning--and starting this journey has definitely been full of learning experiences. With my numbers being so high about my dysfunctional life it made me wonder why?  We as humans seem to be attracted to the negativity. What has made us this way or is it just who we are now?

Unless you are living under a rock--we are in the midst of a government shutdown. Hopefully we end this madness soon. Not only do I feel helpless knowing that so many people are struggling getting their bills paid--and working for free I couldn't help but notice what else was going on during the shutdown. We--the people of this nation DESTROYED our national parks. We filled the bathrooms full of our crap. We the people threw trash EVERYWHERE. We damaged protected trees. WHY? What happened to us? We see stuff like this every year--illegal hunting, fishing, vandalism, driving around in a cart through Walmart drinking wine out of a Pringles can. Why are we working so hard to be horrible people? Because it is easy. Anger is easy...caring about people and our environment takes time, takes a lot of thought. And we just don't have the time.

While on the plane to Japan I watched "Won't You Be My Neighbor" the documentary about Fred Rogers. I grew up watching "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood". I loved ALL the lessons in each episode. He...along with "Sesame Street" were a huge part of my childhood. We also only had 3 channels and no internet so they kind of had to be. Anyways--I loved the show--what I didn't know is that he lived his life feeling he accomplished absolutely nothing. The world got more and more angry. When he past away there were CHILDREN picketing his funeral because he accepted everyone--of every race and sexuality. Children carried signs saying he was burning in hell. CHILDREN! He didn't feel he accomplished anything. Isn't that heartbreaking? There are numerous documentaries out there about historical people that truly felt there was really no point in fighting for anything anymore because evil was winning. Look at us today. Are we getting better? To be honest I am not sure. We filled our national parks with our garbage and our human poop and we wrecked trees because well--we could. NO ONE was watching. So why not? I just can't wrap my head around this. This madness. I don't even have Grand Children yet and I think--what do we as a country have to offer the next generation? Then again do we really care--because IF we did--we probably wouldn't have damaged our beautiful parks with human poop and garbage.

Something I found refreshing in Japan AND Taiwan is the pride they have for their countries. In Japan you could eat off of the streets and not get sick. Cleanest country I have EVER been to. NO garbage anywhere. If someone dropped garbage--someone else picked it up--I think we timed it at 11 seconds. No public garbage cans. I found it so comforting. And sanitary. Taiwan--the desire to be a self sufficient country, the pride they had with organic farming, using their resources and working with those resources for future generations, and taking pride in their country. It's not something I've ever seen before. And when I say pride--I mean--their forests, their cities, their temples, their desire and pride was very addictive and made me feel like I was a part of something. I haven't felt like that in America in a very long time. It was truly refreshing and inspiring.

Before I spill a little tea--I would like everyone to take the time this week to pick up some garbage and throw it away. Clean up what is around you and for goodness sake PLEASE keep the public bathrooms clean-NO ONE wants to clean up your poop. We can't fix the anger--but maybe we can clean up and show some true pride for this country.

Until next week---Kristi

THE TEA--My husband and I were both considering joining the Civic & Commerce group in our local town. I was a member last year (the membership fee was 25.00) and decided it would be good for my husband's business to be a part of it as well. We really love this community and would like to give back--unfortunately the membership dues this year are 100.00 per business. For some it is no big deal--for us--it is 200.00 out of our pockets. That fills our fridge to feed our children--or it is a trip out west river to visit my oldest daughter. So we have declined to become members because of the membership fee. I also witnessed an alliance between a few board members last year. I really don't feel like shelling out the membership fee to witness the shit show that will happen as one business will manipulate the board and make it a free marketing campaign for a sole business. I HOPE I end up being wrong. Want my opinion? No one gives a shit about the bi-laws. Lower the membership fees and invite farmers, ranchers, and hunting lodges to join. We all want the community to be successful but the writing seems to be on the wall with the alliance that was formed. Good luck---on a side note--my husband and I DO love the community so if you ever need warm bodies to help you out at an event give us a call.
