My Vegas Experience: Part 2

A FEW THINGS: Today was a great day! I went through my friend list and deleted those that needed to be deleted and made a list of those who I wasn't sure about. I want to be around people that are empowering and I want to empower others. I no longer desire to be in someone's life so that they can get some information and then twist it and make my life miserable.

So how was Vegas aka Sin City? Well Sin City is for sure how I would describe Las Vegas. Didn't see a cross anywhere on the strip! I flew into Vegas on a Tuesday and my conference was held at the Excalibur Hotel.

In 1992 I was in Vegas at the age of 19 and the Excalibur was brand new. There wasn't anything after that casino and I remember walking through it and I was just mesmerized ( I was really into all of that medieval back then) Fast forward to 2019 and all I can say is Excalibur--get an upgrade! Walking to my room in the long hall with very tacky wall paper and carpet I felt like I was in a horror film. My view in the hotel was not to bad--I could see the airport and I felt like I could just walk there. That is one thing that is crazy about Vegas--everything feels really close but it is not at all.

The food at the Excalibur was fantastic and I LOVED that there was a Krispy Kreme on the second floor. (South Dakota doesn't have a Krispy Kreme) My favorite memory of Krispy Kreme doughnuts is when I would go to Augusta, GA to visit my Grandparents, every morning we would wake up and my Grandfather would have a dozen of assorted Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I would sit at the table with my Grandmother as she ate a raspberry filled doughnut and I would eat a chocolate doughnut and we would talk fashion. The High School in the town I live in will has a yearly Krispy Kreme Doughnut fund raiser and they come fresh from Omaha, Nebraska. With my Grandmother gone I always have a Raspberry Filled Doughnut and think of all of those wonderful conversations about fashion. I miss Grandma Irene everyday.

Not going to lie--a lot of my time consisted of being in the conference. I presented at this conference and I can officially cross that off of my bucket list. We had classes all day and events most of the nights--but we did manage to walk around the strip a little bit late at night and it was quite an experience. The lights are amazing and I never felt unsafe walking around--of course I was with a group of people. If you are going to travel--be smart about it and never go anywhere by yourself. Stupidity will get you killed. The strip is set up where you will walk in and out of different casinos and not on the street. I like this idea but you really walk a lot to get no where. Like I said before--everything looks close but it is not close at all.

During our first night walk I had my first experience with an Instagram couple. Can I just say how freaking annoying they are? The world needs to stop so they can get the right pose in and the right lighting. Now I have a daughter who loves Instagram but she isn't one to stop foot traffic for the right shot. Well--I had to stop and observe this madness--thinking this might be the only time but unfortunately it was consistent throughout the four days I was there. So annoying that one of my colleagues became MY Instagram "husband" and I can't wait to edit and post my pics on my "A Few Things" Instagram page. Stay tuned....

After walking through New York New York...which is really amazing--highly suggested. We decided to head back to the Excalibur and eat a burger at Johnny Rockets. So what if the burger was $16.00? It was 1:00 in the morning and we were hungry after a two mile walk which only covered about 4 casinos. Sitting at Johnny Rockets and eating the best tasting burger ever at 1:00 in the morning we just people watched. What was shocking to me were all of the little kids--and I am talking LITTLE kids--younger than the age of 10 wandering around the casino at 1:00 in the morning. There were young girls dressed to be bought wandering around the casinos and I couldn't help but wonder how bad the sex trafficking is in Vegas and if we were witnessing it with our own eyes.

Until Next Time...Kristi
