A FEW THINGS WITH KRISTI JANEEN:

It was a very gloomy day in "Middle of Nowhere" South Dakota. Cloudy and gloomy only means one thing for me--a non productive day.

One of the things I learned when battling my depression and anxiety is to accomplish three things a day. A chore, a project, or something simple like taking a shower or reading a book. That is how my day went. No anxiety, no depression, just worked on accomplishing three things.

I rescued a dog a little over a year ago--if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you have most likely seen a picture of her. Sami the Rescue Dog. She is part German Shepard/Part Lab. She is a great dog--she never leaves my side. Unfortunately she spends a lot of time on her leash walking with me. She is a livestock chaser. And I can't let her run free. She's young, she has Lab in her which anyone who has worked with a Lab knows they can be a challenge. I hope that we get to a point where she stops the urge to chase. Have you ever seen the movie "Funny Farm" with Chevy Chase? If I let her run free she will be just like the dog in the movie.

The positive with this dog, besides the love she gives, is that I have no choice but to walk her. And those daily walks tend to clear my mind of anxiety.  Fresh air is so good for us. Taking deep breaths are so good for us.

Another project I have been working on is edging away from news sources on Facebook. Condensing down on news sources has helped immensely with my mental health. We need to be engaged on what is happening in our world but we don't have to be obsessed with it. I was catching myself getting to involved with people I didn't know and it occupied a little to much of my time. Learn to love that "unlike" button.

With the recent mass shooting events going on in the country I have read a lot of comments about gun control, background checks, banning guns, red flag laws, etc. I noticed that mental health was not brought up--not on either the left or the right. I think that is where we need to start. I can't help but think that there isn't enough money to be made off of mental health, it isn't a hot topic for an up and coming politician, or even a senior politician. It is sad to think that everything is about money and political contributions verses getting to the core of the problem--but I think that is where we are at right now.

My positive today is that I get my first COVID-19 shot tomorrow afternoon. My "immunity" expires on the 28th so I am thrilled I was able to get in on the vaccine.

It was a very unproductive day.

Cheers to tomorrow.

Kristi
